Laid Back - Bakerman (Soul Clap Remix) [Brother Music]

Another great edit from Boston based duo Soul Clap.

One of my very few memories of Romania last weekend. I want to go back. Great moment when this was played on Kudos Beach. Not sure which DJ played it though. Once again, I blame the shrooms. I’m sure this will be played to death throughout the summer on many Ibiza terraces.

Play loud. Enjoy x

ROMANIA ROCKS!!!

I’ve just spent a week in Romania to help the locals celebrate their ‘Labor Day’. I’ve come back with the knowledge that Romanians really know how to party along with lots of other knowledge lost along the way. I blame the magic mushrooms.

Check this video out from Kudos Beach Club in the resort of Mamaia near Constanta, which is right on the Black Sea coast (a good 5 hour drive from Bucharest Airport!!!). We’re in the crowd somewhere. I remember this moment well as Boris Werner played one of my current favourite house tracks - Oliver $ - Doin’ Ya Thing on Jesse Rose’s label - Made To Play.

This party went on for 72 hours NON-STOP! Not once did this arena die down. This wasn’t even one of the main events happening that weekend…

Sunwaves Festival showcased the likes of Richie Hawtin, Ricardo Villalobos & Marco Carola.

The Mission hosted the likes of Sven Vath, deep house legend Kerri Chandler & the rather impressive Radio Slave.

Techno Heaven! I’d recommend to all! Next year? See you down the front!

SebastiAn - Embody [Ed Banger Records]

The sun has got his hat on. Is summer here? We’ll see. I’m not convinced.

This song makes me feel like it’s summer though. I literally can’t stop playing it.

Typical French electro from the Ed Banger camp. Label boss Busy P describes it as “Prince & SebastiAn in Paris, sharing a glass of wine in a smoky basement.”

I agree.

Play loud. Then repeat.

Can you believe it’s five years since our first Eggroll? Well yes….yes it is. So in celebration we humbly implore you to come to Lost & Found’s 2011 inaugural most twentyelevenish eggroll, of the year 2011.

Of course there’ll be games and of course it will be free. Just turn up at 2pm with drinks and nibbles and your decorated egg masterpiece at the top of Primrose Hill. Bank Holiday Good Friday 22nd April (judging starts at 3pm).

The afterparty will be held @ Fluid, 40 Charterhouse Street, Farringdon, EC1M 6JN until the early hours :-)

Writer’s block?

I’m currently “writing” my 12,000 word Management Research Paper (normal people call this a dissertation). The one thing I have found from doing this, is that it helps me get things done, other than the actual paper itself. Anything to take my mind off it all.

Take this blog (especially this post) for instance. A great example of procrastination at its best.

My classmate Chris recently took up painting because of this paper. You can check out his blog and results of his late night masterpieces here. I think that he’s beating me on the procrastination stakes though overall. On Monday, he flies out to Texas for a week to get very high at this year’s SXSW Conference & Festival. That’s just how Norwegians roll.

End. x

Sound of Rum - Slow Slow [Sunday Best]

I was lucky enough to come across this delightful band during last year’s festival season. Stunning performances led by lead singer/rapper Kate Tempest, at Secret Garden PartyStandon Calling & Bestival, raised an alarm for me to take note that big things were set for this band. It was all more fitting when I found they had been signed to Rob Da Bank’s Sunday Best label and most recently inviting one of my very good friends to manage them. Well done Tamsin.

They describe their sound as ‘Alternative Hip Hop’. I’ll take that. I like the taste of rum. I love the Sound of Rum.

Slow Slow is their debut release single and available to buy on a limited edition 7” white vinyl from HMV, Rough Trade or Juno.

The download features a great dubstep mix from High Rankin as well as remixes from Blanco & Kwake. Download from iTunes or Amazon now.

Upcoming London shows for the band (I recommend you make an effort to see them):

  • Fri 11th MarchLondon at Camden Barfly
  • Fri 18th MarchLondon at Joe Driscoll Album Launch – Secret Location
  • Mon 28th MarchLondon at Book Slam @ Shoreditch House

Stay fresh x

Christian Burkhardt & Einzelkind - Cooper [JAX001]

This tune has been knocking around for some time, but still doing the business everytime I play it or hear it out - most recently on a trip to Jaded @ Cable.

Just outright groovy house music, sampling a classic 70s bassline hook from The Fatback Band. Listen to the original here.

Turns out ‘Cooper’ is just 1 of 8 tracks on their 'Revolver LP' on new label; Jax Records, which is well worth checking out.
